China trip '99: HuangShan

HuangShan in the distance

HuangShan closer up

Huangshan (the Yellow Mountains) is one of the prototypes for all those classical Chinese landscapes of stylized-looking mountains with pines and mists and waterfalls and the odd temple tucked away in the distance. We were a little late in the season, meaning that the waterfalls were at low ebb and there was rather more mist than absolutely necessary, but when the fog cleared enough to see further than our hands there were some spectacular views. Those 'stylized mountains' in the landscapes are actually pretty accurate drawings.
